Railway Line Footpath Consultation 1st November at 7.30pm

A footpath diversion to footpath 399/47 is being proposed by Network Rail. This is the footpath that originates in The Grange, off Wellfield Road, which Network Rail are proposing to originate instead from Whitethorn Way with the purpose of diverting the track crossing over the railway to the existing bridge 100 metres to the East. We fully endorse the safety reasons for moving the crossing off the track but have suggested that the footpath does not need to be diverted from The Grange in order to achieve this and can divert to the left after the first field instead. A public consultation is being held by Network Rail on November 1st at 7.30pm at Marshfield Village Hall.

Update added: 23/01/13

Network Rail have now confirmed that it is their intention to pursue their original proposal to divert the footpath crossing, utilising the length of the lane leading between Whitethorn Way and Blacktown Bridge. They advise that this proposal has the land owner’s support; therefore they believe that this will be the quickest way to reduce the risk to the public. However, they understand that this proposal may face objection and therefore the possibility of being determined by inquiry so are happy work directly with residents to allay concerns.  Marshfield Community Council have contacted Network Rail to ask what further communication will be made with residents on a potential inquiry and we will keep you updated.
